The "Delta Dunării" International Airport TCE/LRTC in Tulcea has recently completed its modernization and expansion works, positioning itself to become an important transit point for the Dobrogea region. With a total investment of 180 million lei and construction lasting two years, the airport promises to provide a significant boost to local tourism and regional connectivity.
The modernization works at Tulcea Airport included the construction of a new passenger terminal, the expansion of the aircraft parking apron, and the taxiway. Additionally, a dedicated platform for aircraft deicing activities was added. The new terminal is equipped with a jet bridge for boarding and disembarking passengers, making Tulcea the third airport in Romania, after Otopeni and Iași, to offer this facility.
With an increased processing capacity of 400 people per hour, the new terminal meets European standards and the needs of airlines for operating regular and charter flights. Although there are currently no contracted flights, there are reports of discussions with airlines such as Wizz Air, Ryanair, and HiSky, indicating a potential future for regular international air operations to and from Tulcea.
The "Delta Dunării" Airport is seen as a crucial link in the strategy for developing regional infrastructure and facilitating access to the Danube Delta, one of Romania's most important tourist destinations. Strategically located in the center of a catchment area of 2.5 million residents and benefiting from the recently completed Tulcea-Brăila bridge connection, the airport promises to make the region even more accessible to a larger number of tourists.
With its new facilities and enhanced capacity, the "Delta Dunării" Tulcea International Airport is poised to become an important hub for international flights, supporting not only the growth of tourism but also the economic development of the Dobrogea region. The substantial investments and modernizations reflect a clear commitment to improving accessibility and services for one of Romania's most scenic and ecologically significant areas.
